The election result broke all kinds of records. Labor received the highest two-party preferred vote – 55.22 per cent – of any party since 1975. The 94 seats it secured in the House of Representatives was the highest number ever won by a single political party in an Australian election. And Labor tied with the Coalition’s 1996 result for the most seats ever won by a party or coalition.
