The Split

Nationals leader David Littleproud and Liberal leader Sussan Ley sit on a split couch, and say, 'Mummy and Daddy still love you very much,' to a bucket of coal.

One of the key issues that led to the Coalition split on 20 May was the debate around energy policy. During the election campaign, both the Liberals and the Nationals had called for retiring coal power plants to be replaced with ‘reliable, zero-emissions nuclear energy’. After the election, only the Nationals remained committed to the policy.
