'The Big League' program of 1983 triggered the Street Royal Commission. The program investigated an allegation that, after a phone call from Premier Neville Wran, NSW Chief Stipendiary Magistrate Murray Farquhar interfered in fraud proceedings against rugby league boss Kevin Humphreys. In the end, Humphreys was fined, Farquhar jailed and Wran exonerated. My first program in a 25-year career was a critical lesson in mediating power and responsibility.
