Around 10 per cent of Australia’s workforce is employed in the care economy – and women make up around 80 per cent of that group. Simon Letch links the low pay and poor conditions typically found in sectors such as aged care and childcare to the corporatisation of care work. But the workers themselves are increasingly challenging the status quo, through industrial action and collective bargaining.
