The Buck Stops Here

A board meeting where Clive Palmer's shortfalls and benefits are outlined. In the background are various billboards representing the United Australia Party.

Six years after he lost his House of Representatives seat of Fairfax, Clive Palmer continued to pour his personal fortune into the rebranded United Australia Party (UAP). In 2019 Palmer spent $83 million on his campaign and failed to win a seat, although he claimed to have inflicted sufficient damage on then Opposition Leader Bill Shorten’s campaign to keep Labor from government. In 2022, having spent nearly $100 million, the UAP secured just one Senate seat.
