Donald Trump, the businessman and former reality-TV star, was the first US president to be elected
without any prior political or military experience. In February, New York Times columnist Thomas L Friedman published an opinion piece asking whether the United States was 'being led by a Mafia godfather, looking to carve up territory with Russia the way the heads of crime families operate'.
