Voice Tour Over

Anthony Albanese stands in an overgrown front yard, after arriving in a car towing a caravan that reads 'Voice Tour of Australia'.

As the Voice referendum votes were counted, it became clear early on that a majority of states had voted ‘No’, meaning the referendum proposal could not succeed. Ultimately, all states and territories, except the Australian Capital Territory, voted against the proposed constitutional amendment. Nationwide, the ‘Yes’ vote was 39.4 per cent. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had visited key states and rural areas in the weeks before the vote to promote the ‘Yes’ case. But Mark Knight suggests that the overgrown grass in the PM’s front yard shows he had neglected issues closer to home.
