Judge’s comment
Fiona has used the ‘welcome mat’ as a powerful metaphor that speaks to both the number of faceless, anonymous asylum seekers in detention, and the seemingly arbitrary nature of the bureaucratic machine that confines them. The ‘refugee issue’ has subsided in the public eye in recent years, and this cartoon reminds us of all those unable to ‘move on’ as we have.
