The State of the Environment report placed the koala and the gang-gang cockatoo on the threatened species list. Both species had been badly affected by the 2019–20 Black Summer bushfires and struggled to recover. David Pope sees paramedics, nurses and teachers as also on the threatened species list as they struggle to recover from two long years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
