Wiradjuri woman Linda Burney, Minister for Indigenous Australians, told the House of Representatives that the period of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II had been a ‘difficult and painful reminder of the impact of colonisation’ for many First Nations people. Governor-General David Hurley also acknowledged that the Queen’s death had sparked ‘different reactions’ and that reconciliation was ‘a journey we as a nation must complete’.
