At the 2019 federal election Scott Morrison promised to establish a federal anti-corruption body in his first term as prime minister. The model introduced by the Liberal–National Coalition in 2021, which was tabled but never debated, was criticised for being ‘overly secretive’. During the 2022 election campaign Morrison refused to commit to establishing the anti-corruption body even if he won another term.
