When New Zealand was excluded from the AUKUS pact, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that given the country’s nuclear-free laws and that ‘the anchor of this arrangement are nuclear powered submarines … it will be very clear … why NZ would not wish to be a part of that project’.
