In April the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission was asked to draft a mandatory code of conduct to address imbalances between Australian news media and digital platforms, specifically Google and Facebook. A draft code was released in July. The technology giants lobbied against the code being legislated. Spooner depicted Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg with a crown — a fitting image given his wealth had grown by a whopping $25 billion since the pandemic’s arrival.
