Fuel for the Firestorm

Scott Morrison in a Hawaiian shirt and flanked by security guards approaches two Rural Fire Service men in a bushfire-ravaged forest. The men say, 'Don't look now but here comes that grief counsellor we never requested'.

Politicians put themselves in the firing line when they enter communities dealing with trauma. In January footage of Prime Minister Scott Morrison being snubbed by bushfire-affected locals in Cobargo led the news. The Prime Minister’s awkward attempts to shake the hand of a Rural Fire Service member, and of a pregnant woman made homeless by the fires, made for uncomfortable viewing.
