Community guidelines
We’re all about celebrating the spirit of Australian democracy and the power of your voice. That means we love having conversations about history, politics, social change and rights – meaningful, though sometimes sensitive topics. These guidelines outline how to participate in conversations on our website and social media platforms.
We’d love to see you sharing:
- your thoughts, ideas and questions about Australian history, politics, social change, rights and our democracy
- your experiences of the museum, exhibitions, events and our collection – what you loved or what we could improve
- photos and videos of the building, the museum and the things you did on your visit.
We won’t tolerate comments or posts that:
- can be considered defamatory, or otherwise unlawful
- violate laws regarding harassment, discrimination, racial vilification, privacy or contempt
- are intentionally false or misleading
- infringe intellectual property rights including copyright
- deliberately provoke others
- use explicit or offensive language or imagery
- contain allegations or accusations
- attempt to solicit donations
- sell or promote products, services or events
- contain private information about yourself or others, including contact details
- contain misinformation or disinformation.
MoAD reserves the right to close comments on posts that may elicit harmful, defamatory or otherwise unlawful user contributions.
If we see these kinds of posts on our platforms, we will:
- hide or delete the post or comment
- report the post in accordance with platform rules
- block user profiles if the negative posts continue.
These guidelines cover participation on all Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House online platforms, including:
- our website and microsites
- social media (Facebook, X , Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube )
- travel websites where we administer the page (TripAdvisor).
We monitor our sites between business hours Monday to Friday. If you have any questions about these guidelines for online participation, send us an email at socialmedia@moadoph.gov.au.
