Join us and Claire Bown, museum educator and author, for a full-day workshop designed for educators, front-of-house staff and anyone who interacts with visitors. This hands-on session will explore useful strategies to improve visitor engagement – whether through formal programmes, casual interactions, or spontaneous conversations.
Throughout the day, you'll learn how to engage visitors by observation and noticing, shared visual inquiry and through using tools like 'Questioning Practices' to foster curiosity, dialogue, and connection. In this workshop, Claire will introduce the Thinking Museum Approach, explored in her new book, The art engager: reimagining guided experiences in museums.
You'll be encouraged to think about the museum visit as a holistic experience and consider every aspect, from how to create a welcoming atmosphere, foster meaningful discussions, and how to end well.
In addition, you'll discover new ways to connect with different audiences, stimulate dialogue, and create memorable experiences. Through interactive activities, reflective exercises, and group discussions, you'll feel confident engaging visitors, building rapport, and adapting to various situations.
Ideal for refreshing or enhancing your skills, this workshop will leave you inspired and ready to make every visitor interaction meaningful.
