Science Week with Stellarphant and James Foley

Date: Monday 17 August, 12pm – 12:45pm AEST

This collaborative event brings together Plants for Space, James Foley, and the MoAD learning team.

Ignite students' imagination through James' reading of Stellarphant, as we explore themes of perseverance and consider what plants in space might look like. James will lead a short drawing activity to help students on their way to creating their very own picture book featuring an out-of-this-world character and plant. Students will also participate in a live Q&A with the scientific team at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space.

About James Foley

James Foley is the author and illustrator of many picture books and graphic novels including Stellarphant, Happy Barry Capybara, Secret Agent Mole, Bigfoot vs Yeti: A Love Story, Dungzilla, Brobot, Gastronauts, and Chickensaurus. Many of his books have won awards from the Children's Book Council of Australia and the International Youth Library.

He is an ambassador for Books in Homes, Room to Read, and the Barking Gecko Theatre Company. James lives near Fremantle/Walyalup in Western Australia with his wife Renae Hayward (also an author), their 2 kids (wannabe authors), and a labrador named Frankie (not an author).

The ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space (P4S) are researching and creating ways to help humans survive and thrive in space using plants. This will reduce the dependence on resupplying space missions and help sustainable food and bioresource production on Earth.
