'Unsoliticited Text' by Oslo Davis, published in the Saturday Paper on the 12th of April 2025, is a sparse coloured ink sketch of two people in a loungeroom.
In the centre of the room are two people on lounge chairs watching TV, the one to the left with short black hair holding their phone, their legs propped up on an ottoman. The other to the right has short blonde hair and is wearing a red shirt. To the right of the people is a little dog in a dog bed, and above the dog is the artist’s signature, 'Oslo'. Around them are decorations including a houseplant, a lamp, a bookshelf and pictures on the walls.
At the bottom of the image is the speech from one person to the other: 'I’m still undecided. What I need is an unsolicited text message from an insane far-right billionaire telling me how to vote.'
During the 2025 election campaign, the Trumpet of Patriots party, which was backed by billionaire Clive Palmer, sent unsolicited text messages to multitudes of voters, despite those voters not signing up to any mailing list. The messages, which infuriated many Australians, were authorised by Harry Fong, the party’s lead Senate candidate for Queensland.
